I must say.. I think Harold + Natalie’s proposal story is one of the most EPIC and unique stories I have ever heard!! And I loved hearing Natalie + Harold recount this story during our time together for their Ballard Locks Engagement session.
Natalie + Harold met at softball practice in the Spring of 2012, when Harold’s teammate Chuck invited Natalie to join their team. It didn’t take long for Harold to notice that not only was the new girl really cute.. she actually was one heck of a softball player! So to say it lightly, he was smitten :)
Fast forward through the dating years – and we come to last summer. Natalie shared with a few words about their proposal story! “It was Harold’s 40th birthday last July and we had just took a hopper over from Molokai where we were visiting for Harold’s family reunion. I wanted to do something special for his birthday, so we went to Maui. We decided with the little time we had between massages and dinner we wanted to go snuba diving. It’s a cross between scuba and snorkeling where you’re still attached to an oxygen tank, but the tank floats on a raft above the water. We were given a tour of Ma’alaea Harbor where we saw sea turtles and schools of tropical fish! It was such an amazing experience. A photographer was swimming around taking pictures to document this awesome moment in time for people. According to Harold, he knew he wanted to propose on this trip, but was waiting for the right moment. The photographer swam up and snapped a few photos, but as he tried to swim away Harold caught his attention again. Harold pulled me so that we were facing each other, he bent his knee as if he was kneeling and proceeding to make a ring shape with his hand and slide it on my finger. I had no idea what was going on. I kept shaking my head no, as if to tell Harold “I don’t know what you’re saying.” I just didn’t get it. Harold, thinking me shaking my head no was saying no to his proposal, gave me this look like “What do you mean no?” I didn’t understand until I saw it in his face. I smiled so big the respirator came unsealed from my mouth and I took in what felt like a gallon of water lol. I was essentially drowning 30 feet underwater and signaled to Harold I needed to get to the top for air. I raced to the surface and proceeded to vomit up a boat load of water while Harold celebrated next to me. The snuba instructor asked if we were ok and Harold explained the story. She sent us back underwater with the photographer and an etch-a-sketch that read “Just engaged” to get a few more photos. Thankfully he didn’t bring the ring into the ocean and we shopped for one together when we got home :)”
It’s not every day you hear of a proposal story happening UNDER WATER!! But that’s how Natalie + Harold do things, they are intentional and make it everything an adventure! This Ballard locks session may be one of my new favorite Seattle engagement sessions to date! Check it out! PLUS they brought their adorable pup named CHUNK! Haha! And I love when we can capture some candid moments with the pups as well! So if you love dogs and warm golden light – you’ll love this session! We started our time in Pioneer Square and then made our way up to the Ballard Locks and it was my first time and it’s really cool! We even saw a seal!
