If you are seeking an adventurous experience, I highly recommend that you elope in Washington State! The pacific northwest is known for its unbelievable landscapes and untouched terrain. If you are an engaged couple looking for a unique, customized-to-you experience, elopement might just be perfect for you!
#1 Mount Rainier
If you live in the Seattle area, you’ll often hear locals say “the mountain is out today”. They are referring to the one and only Mount Rainier. When the sun is out and the sky is clear, there she is, radiating in all her glory!! While the view of Mount Rainier from Seattle is incredible, the views for your Mount Rainier Elopement are otherworldly.
When should I elope at Mount Rainier?
The weather in the pacific northwest can be tricky. I recommend my elopement couples to choose a timeline of late July to early September when eloping at Mount Rainier. The landscapes during this late summer season include lush rolling meadows, wildflowers, and jaw-dropping mountain views. I often tell my couples that eloping at Mount Rainier feels like you are literally in the clouds – SO romantic!

#2 North Cascades National Park
Eloping in North Cascades National Park is a MUST if you want to elope in Washington State! This elopement location usually has less traffic and is the perfect place to get creative with your photos. The landscape in this area is focused on stunning, reflective alpine lakes, jagged mountain terrain, and green hiking trails.
Favorite facts about eloping in North Cascades National Park:
- The total park area is over of 500,000 acres…endless options for shooting locations. We can find something wonderful off the beaten path to create a one-of-a-kind love story.
- There are over 300 glaciers – more than any other park in the lower 48 states
- There is no fee to enter!
Some of the shots you see below are actually located at the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie Forest, which is included in the NCNP. While you do have to obtain a permit for this area, it is free.

#3 Olympic Peninsula
I love being an elopement photographer in Washington State for many reasons. The biggest reason is the variety! The Olympic Peninsula makes my list because of the dramatic ocean views, mossy-green lush terrain, and the snow capped mountains. There are many places to elope within Olympic National Park, but eloping at the Olympic Peninsula is a magical experience in its own right.
My favorite elopement locations at Olympic National Park:
- Hurricane Ridge
- Lake Crescent
- The Hoh Rainforest
- Ruby Beach
Do you need a permit to elope at Olympic National Park?
Yes! The rules are ever-changing when eloping at national parks, so it’s important to visit the official park website for the most up-to-date information. As of 2022, you need a “special use” permit for Olympic National Park. I always tell my elopement couples to knock out this step as soon as possible, to ensure that the permit is processed in time. It typically takes a month for permits to be processed to elope in Washington State.
#4 Snoqualmie National Forest
Eloping in Snoqualmie national forest is perfect for moody, lush landscapes OR refreshing glacier views. The vastness of this national forest never disappoints when it comes to (yet again) variety! The USDA Forest Service refers to these lush landscapes as an “urban forest” due to the close proximity to the counties surrounding Seattle. While this national forest is technically the most visited in the area and country, it is easy to find secluded and unique photoshoot locations. This popular Washington State elopement location is famous for its old-growth forests. Not only is the history behind this area fascinating, it truly is the best elopement location for an overgrown-moody-mossy elopement vibe!
Do I need a permit to elope at Snoqualmie National Forest?
Yes. You will need a Discover Pass to elope at Snoqualmie National Forest! The good news is that they are only $10 for a day pass. For more information on how to apply for this permit, click HERE.
#5 Seattle City Elopement
Not the outdoorsy type but still super pumped about an elopement in Washington state? I got you covered! Seattle is a BEAUTIFUL city to shoot your elopement in. There are so many different parks, rooftops, and romantic views available for your special day! Golden Gardens is an eye-catching city beach that offers expansive views, beach vibes, and lush greenery for a more natural look. You can also go to the pier for pictures on the Ferris wheel, overlooking the incredible mountain views and cityscape. OR you can enjoy iconic pictures and eats by eloping at Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle!
The options are truly endless when it comes to eloping! Creating a customized ceremony and wedding day experience is why I love being a Washington State Elopement Photographer.
