Emily and Jay were such an incredible couple to work with! They define perseverance and making the best of their situation. Their plans dramatically shifted after COVID19 restrictions came into play. They had a multi-day Indian wedding event in July that they had to postpone, but they knew they still wanted to get married on their original wedding date. A Mount Rainier elopement was the perfect solution.
How did you two meet?
Online dating website “coffee meets bagel.” We first met in person at Duke’s Chowder House in Greenlake.
What was your first impression of your fiance? (bride’s response)
He had a really great smile and seemed to be so happy with this awesome positivity about him.
What was your first impression of your fiance? (groom’s response)
She was sweet, caring, and excited to be in Seattle. Open to discuss her life and how she moved to Seattle because she loves the mountains and not just for a job. (How perfect that we had our elopement at Mount Rainier.) As my mindset is typically move to where the best job is, she was perceived as a free spirit in my eyes.
When did you know that he was the one you wanted to marry? (Bride’s response)
The day that really stands out in my mind was a random Sunday in August, about 8 months after we met. We had just watched a movie at the theatre and he asked if I wanted to take a walk around Lake Ballinger. We spent the afternoon soaking in the beautiful weather and talking about life. The conversation got a bit deeper and we found ourselves talking about the future using the words ‘we’ and ‘us.’ and it just flowed naturally. From that day forward, I really began seeing him as the man I was going to marry one day.
When did you know that she was the “one”? (Groom’s Response)
Probably when she knew what I was feeling before I knew what I was feeling. I was the nerdy “excel sheet” guy and she was the in tune with her life and feelings. I started exploring my feelings and thought, “how can I let a girl who cares so deeply and who I enjoy spending time with leave?” As we see now, I wouldn’t let her leave.
What is your favorite memory when you first started dating? (Bride)
Jay always tried to impress me by trying out new recipes and making me dinner frequently. For our first Valentine’s Day, he had a salmon dinner planned for weeks. He did so much prepping, that he tested 3 different recipes out prior to the date so he could get it just right. When I got to his house on Valentine’s Day, he really blew me away! He had the table set nicely with candles and then handed me a huge bouquet of flowers from Pike Place Market. He even made a specific Spotify playlist that had a lot of songs we enjoyed listening to together. I felt so special and loved that day. It was one of my favorite memories.
Tell me three things about your fiance (groom)
She loves to travel and has really close friendships. Her friends come out and visit her in Seattle often, which was a good indication of her character. Wee recently started backpacking — she loves hiking! She is patient as hell, willing to deal with my quirks and my jokes that never land! She hates movies, which I love and she gets anxious when we aren’t doing something.
Tell me three things about your fiance (bride)
He is the sweetest, kindest soul I have ever met. His really unique sense of humor always makes me laugh. He is a great teammate and the most supportive person.
What do you think is unique about you as a couple?
We come from very different backgrounds and we both are always trying to learn more about each other’s cultures. We will be able to blend each of our families’ traditions as we start our own family and with our kids one day.
